ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

  • Assist Director of Marketing in implementing the Museum's marketing strategy, with emphasis on development of graphics for marketing materials and advertising
  • Manage budgeting, print production and project coordination for assigned Marketing projects, including: membership materials, fundraising/development collateral, invitations, event programs and promotional materials
  • Further the Museum's standards for professional quality communications with attention given to cost effectiveness and efficiency
  • Oversee advertising creative and budgets, manage media buying and keep pertinent files relating to such
  • Coordinate internal digital signage program and web site design in cooperation with the IT department, and guide efforts to expand e-commerce
  • Help PR and marketing departments update images to media web site to maximize publicity opportunities for the Museum
  • Serve as marketing coordinator, as appointed, on specific projects. Examples could include such things as: education marketing, tourism marketing, exhibitions and events
  • Serve as marketing liaison on committees, both internal and external
  • Assist with PR and marketing activities including copywriting, sponsors relations and Museum events. Interact with co-op associations, members, Board of Directors, sponsors, VIPs, etc.
  • Other duties as directed

    Requirements:
  • College degree required. Graphic design, marketing or communications degree with three to five years work experience preferred. Portfolio of work required.
  • Proficient in InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator and Microsoft Suites in a PC environment
  • Experience in the print production process from computer to print
  • Strong communications skills (written and oral, internal and external)
  • Positive relations with coworkers throughout the Museum
  • Initiative and willingness to keep up with Marketing trends, current events, media opportunities and information technology
  • Strong support for the Museum's leadership and strategic plan and willingness to articulate messages to coworkers and the public

Dickinson Research Center Director
National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Research Center has administrative and budgetary responsibility for the unit and staff of the museum's library and archives.

  • Reports to the Assistant Director and is part of the institution's Core Programming operations which includes collections, exhibitions, curatorial, and education.
  • Responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of activities associated with the collecting, management, research, reference, and educational goals of the Center and by extension the Museum.
  • Duties in terms of the larger picture are to lend expertise and experience in matters of general interest to the Museum such as accreditation, strategic planning, museum ethics, grant-writing, and emergency-preparedness.
  • Particular duties and responsibilities include the supervision of staff members and volunteers in a variety of activities associated with the preservation of and access to library and archival materials in the implementation of the Center's five programmatic initiatives.
  • Identifies and builds relationships with potential donors (individuals and companies) of appropriate materials, especially the A. Keith Brodkin Project.
  • Oversees the acquisition, accessioning, storage, preservation, cataloging, record keeping, access and other matters associated with the library and archival holdings.
  • Coordinate the disposition, retention, preservation, and access to the museum's institutional records.
  • Provides reference and research services to museum staff, general public, and scholars through electronic and standard mail, telephone, fax, and visitation transactions.
  • Promotes the Center as a resource to stimulate creative teaching and learning through the use of the collected materials in exhibitions, publications, symposia, and the Museum's website.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited Master's degree in library or information science with training in archival or records management, preservation and conservation, or Master's degree in History with a concentration in archival studies, and experience with archival management practices and standards; 5 years or more of relevant museum or archives experience and at least 2 years previous experience in a staff management position; fully conversant with library/archives technology; strong analytical, writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Work experience with encoded archival description (EAD), describing archives a content standard (DACS), and exhibition production & curation; proven grant-writing ability; experience with digitization and assignment of metadata; college-level study of American history; familiarity with history of the Western United States.

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Public Relations/Marketing Internship—Summer 2010

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City is seeking qualified intern candidates for Summer 2010. Intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience working on varied public relations and marketing tasks for a nonprofit organization. Internship is unpaid. Hours are arranged to the mutual satisfaction of both the Museum and the student.

Qualifications

  • Junior or senior pursuing bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, mass communications, journalism or related field
  • Strong writing skills and familiarity with AP style
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work 12 to 16 hours a week

Web Design Internship

The unpaid internship is hosted by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The host institution is also the site of internship activities.

The purpose of this internship project is to allow the intern an opportunity to function as a professional in his chosen field, and to confirm his enthusiasm for this choice of career path. The specific goal of this project is to design an interactive database driven web site kiosk to be presented in the Museum's Western Performers Gallery. Direction and content of the project will be provided by the Museum.

Intern must have knowledge of HTML, basic Adobe Photoshop skills, DreamWeaver, ASP.NET, and must possess good communication skills and be able to work independently.

The Intern is not an employee of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and shall not be entitled to any benefits.
